rm -rf / is a command line on Linux shells (and probably UNIX too) that's somewhat of a joke in the geek world: it removes (rm) everything recursively (r) and forcefully (f) from the root directory (/), resulting in a COMPLETE deletion of every file on the hard drive (until the program "rm" deletes itself, at which time the computer becomes retarded).

You want to pipe the output of rm to echo?
Reply
:iconistvanhobor:
not the output, only I want to echo the text after the remove.

I actually tried that in a virtual machine, you get pretty wierd results (there are enough videos on youtube if you want to see it.)

after rm removes itself, what happened? will it return to the shell because the shell maybe still remain in the RAM? or.. rm -f /dev/ram will erase everything in the RAM too? :-)

Ahaha, god I love it. I feel very sorry for the suckers that actually see and try the command. Hopefully those users arent given root access.

Cool man! I probably would have chosen a different font.
